It used to really p** me off when I would get accused of being a troll. Fighting an addiction with lotto/scratchards is just as difficult as fighting a fobt addiction. I realize there’s a lot of bookies on our High streets but there’s just as many,if more, lotto terminals!

If I posted frequently, I got accused of being a layabout, others posted just as frequently but they were never accused of being a layabout.

I would often get wisecracks about constantly saying I was leaving the forum, others constantly said they were leaving the forum and would return but they never got it thrown back in their face.

I’m tired of being accused of breaking this forum, I’ve had to endure endless insults over the past 12 months. I didn’t break the forum, you managed that all by yourselves!

Got paid today, *** quid in overtime so I was tempted to go on a gambling bender. Transfered my money so I can’t get my mittens on it.

Back on track … here’s to the next 50 days.

I think everyone else has gone, I doubt they’re even checking this forum. You’ll find Jane over on Gamcare. I don’t know about the others. I’ve locked my threads on Gamcare and my account will be closed soon, once they resolve some tech issues.
So if this ghost ship goes down, I’m going down with it.

50 days gf!

I don’t really feel anything if I’m honest. I’m only trying to give up gambling because I know it’s good for me, not because I want to.

Here’s to the next 50 … unless I succumb to one of those ‘oh, f**k it” moments!

I came to this site hoping to find some solace and hope with others sharing their difficulties involving gambling, unfortunately I’m now having to block the multitude of incoming messages from members posting mundane diary like entries unrelated to gambling, and mindless chatter about trivial day to day goings on.

Until these posts are moderated I can’t see any good reason for anyone to contribute here. I’m sad to say that what started out as the best of intentions now seems to be a personal blog for a single obsessed, perhaps sociopathic frequenter of this site.

These emails will now be blocked by myself. All the best to everyone who is here for genuine reasons and is brave enough to continue accepting these messages.

I see closing my account as a postive sign.

Finally got my gas boiler repaired today, ouch, 350 pound bill.

Gambling was never about making money for me, only entertainment, so no desire to gamble to raise the money. I can’t gamble online anyway. Gam-stop. Lol

Reminder to oneself –
It just feels good to know that because I haven’t gambled for 40 + days, I had the money sitting in my current a/c to pay the gas engineer. Life is so much easier when you don’t gamble. Gambling just steals your money, your financial security.

Clock in later.

Now I dont like to blow my own trumpet but it hasnt gone by unnoticed that since I’ve become a major player on the forum, there have been virtually no posts from anyone relapsing.

I’m very proud of you all! Hahahahahahaha

Plus it was good of me to raise the link between weight issues and the thyroid gland in my post about the sugar tax last Monday. Although if I recall correctly, I highlighted it to Kate last year when she mentioned about always feeling sluggish.

Keep it gamble free!

And one last thing, some of you were aghast (well you probably werent giving a ‘f’) that i didn’t own many cooking utensils. You dont need them when you eat freshly caught lobster , fruit and veg that are in season etc. Keep it simple folks, fresh produce, walk instead of jumping in that car, keep learning and developing new interests and hobbies and the most important thing of all, don’t take yourself too seriously.

I read recently (Tom Robbins) that all depression has its roots in self-pity and all self pity is rooted in people taking themselves too seriously or thinking themselves more important than they actually are.

The advice … the world doesnt give a rat’s ass … we’re only a pimple on the ass-end of creation.

Make it a good day for YOU!

I made the Pinochio remark and would like to apologise. I was out of order.

My friend’s (lardy) sister has an underactive thyroid and it is a complex condition. It can leave a person feeling low because it can result in a person having difficulty in maintaining their weight.

Once again I would like to apologise for my insensitive comments.

I am fortunate that despite my gambling issues it has never left me feeling depressed. However that does not give me the right to make flippant comments.

Got some news yesterday. My thyroid has packed up. I am severely hypothyroid and my doctor thinks it is likely connected to suffering years of gambling addiction.

I am told that years of acute stress have released lots of cortisol into my bloodstream. It can make you gain weight, but it can also interfere with the thyroid which can struggle to produce enough hormones for normal body function. Eventually, the person will develop a list of unpleasant symptoms. I had these symptoms, but I put them down to the depression and addiction. I don’t hardly ever feel well but although that isn’t normal, it is normal for me.

With hypothyroidism, a person will suffer depression, memory loss, poor brain function, inability to concentrate, poor metabolism, profound tiredness, fatigue and low mood. You will also likely put on weight. Since these are also the symptoms of addiction, it is easy to dismiss the possibility that you may be unwell.
My doctor that I have probably had this for many years due to the extent of my results.
Years of gambling and prolonged stress could have prevented my thyroid from working properly and the knock on effect of my thyroid not working properly made me even more prone to gambling because of the depression and low mood symptoms that hypothyroid brings, creating a sort of vicious cycle.

“Chronic stress can cause problems in your body for years before lab tests show a problem. All the while, you may experience hypothyroid symptoms, such as fatigue or weight gain. This prolonged stress may crop up as depression or anxiety when both are actually hypothyroid symptoms”.

I urge any of you who are suffering from depression, anxiety and low mood to get your thyroid checked. It is not just a female issue. Today’s stressful lifestyle means more and more men are being diagnosed. You could be using gambling to compensate for a thyroid imbalance. Do not underestimate how dreadfully low I have felt these last few years and I put it all down to my addiction. By ignoring these symptoms, my gambling got worse. I carried on gambling despite gambling making me feel so bad because I needed something to pick me up, even if just for a while. It is just a simple blood test. If your thyroid is not functioning properly, you are much more liable to using gambling, drinking and drugs to lift your mood. You may not even know why you feel so low all the time. Like me, it may just have become normal for you to feel that way and gambling may have become a quick and easy way to compensate the mood.
Likewise, if you gamble to excess, you are much more likely, over time, to develop thyroid problems. Gambling addicts are more prone to thyroid problems because of the extent to which they inflict incredible amounts of stress upon themselves. We are all battering our thyroid by riddling our bodies with stress which in turn makes us even less able to deal with stress by causing depression and fatigue.

I have not had sufficient hormones for years because mine stopped working and I just put the symptoms down to my gambling. No wonder I felt so bad and no wonder I found it so hard to break the gambling cycle because no matter how long I would go without gambling, I would still feel so bad because my body wasn’t functioning properly and neither was my brain so I would fall back into the gambling routine.

Although it is not great news and I will need many more doctors appointments than I would like, I am hopeful that having my daily thyroid medication will help me in my quest to remain a non gambler. It should at least level the playing field. I would give anything to feel human again because the moods have been desperate at times and it is not easy to fight urges when you feel so low.

Wanted to share this with you in the hopes that it might help someone who can relate.
